Our Worship Times are Changing!

At Christ the King, we are committed to reaching Houston for Christ and renewing lives by grace. This vision, which is both exciting and lofty, causes us to think strategically about the mission and ministry of our church.

To that end, I wanted to let you know that beginning Sunday, June 4, the worship service times at Christ the King will change to 9:00 and 10:30 am.The Session believes this time change will help us better serve our members and regular attenders as well as make us more welcoming to visitors in our community.

While we recognize that such a change may inconvenience some of you, we have been hearing consistent feedback over the last two years that our worship times make it difficult for families and individuals to participate in both worship and Children’s Sunday School and Adult Sunday Morning Classes at Christ the King. Many families are choosing to participate only one hour - often splitting the family between the worship service and a Sunday School class. Some of the feedback surrounding that has to do with the length of the morning but also the difficulty of ending Sunday morning activities at 12:15 pm.

We are hopeful that pushing our worship services back thirty minutes will allow more families and individuals to participate in both worship and Children’s Sunday School and Adult Sunday Morning Classes – thus creating a path toward being renewed by God’s grace. The second service will now end at 11:45 am, and our hope is that this timing works better for people to feed families, get children down for naps, and have time for more rest during the afternoon hours. Ending before noon is also a posture of friendliness toward newcomers – thus helping us better reach Houston for Christ.

What a joy it is to gather together as a church family to glorify God and to make his glory known in Houston! I look forward to being with you this week as he invites us to do just that, and then, at 9:00 and 10:30 am beginning June 4.

Warmly in the Lord,
Clay Holland
